Established in 1916 by the United States Lawn Tennis
Association as the National Junior and Boys Championship.

• First played in 1917 at West Side Tennis Club Courts, Forest
Hills, Long Island, New York. Moved to Kalamazoo in 1943 from
Culver Military Academy. Due to World War II, it was necessary
to move tournament from military base, and Dr. Allen B. Stowe
successfully lobbied USTA to relocate tournament to Kalamazoo.

1916-1920 - West Side Tennis Club - Forest Hills, New York
1921-1923 - Longwood Cricket Club - Boston, Massachusetts
1924-1926 - South Side Tennis Club - Chicago, Illinois
1927 - West Side Tennis Club - Forest Hills, New York

1928-1942 - Culver Military Academy - Culver, Indiana
1943-present - Kalamazoo College - Kalamazoo, Michigan


• 1943-1946 - Tournament played on five Grasstex courts next to the railroad tracks where the Anderson Athletic Center is now
located

• 1946 - Tournament moved to its present site; the surface of the
nine courts was red clay

• 1958 - Tennis House, first indoor tennis facility in Michigan,
erected featuring two grasstex courts

1963 - Courts resurfaced with laykold; lights installed on three
stadium courts

• 1979 - Courts 10 and 11 added to Stowe complex

• 1981 - Tennis House converted into gymnasium

• 1988 - Thomas S. Markin Racquet center opened, with four indoor tennis courts, three racquetball courts and one squash court
