Top Seed Philip King Advances
The rain and thunderstorms held off and top seed in the 18's Philip King advanced to the fifth round with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Evan Austin. Fourth seed Bo Hodge of Austin, Texas needed three sets to defeat Roger Gubser, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1. In the 16's, number one seed Rajeev Ram took just over an hour to send his doubles partner Jonathan Stokke packing, 6-4, 6-2. The biggest upset of the day was third seed in the 16's, Douglas Stewart falling straight sets to unseeded Robert Yim of Glendale, California, 6-2 and 6-2.
Tuesday also saw hometown favorite, Eric Hodgman, lose to the 12th seed Suhkwa Young, 6-3 and 6-1.
Fifth round action on Wednesday has 16's top seed Ram taking on 24th seed Chris Kwon. The 16's fifth round gets underway at 10:00 a.m. and the 18's start around 12:30 p.m. Quarterfinals in doubles in both divisions are at 4:30 p.m.
