Kalamazoo area players Nick Rinks and Eric Hodgman advanced to the second round of the USTA Boys 16s Super Nationals with straight set victories Saturday morning.

Hodgman, playing in Kalamazoo as a second-year 16s player, earned a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Steven Peretz on Court 3.

Rinks, a first-year 16s player, played his first match at Kalamazoo on Court 2. He fought back from being down a break twice, at 2-5 and 5-6, to take the first set in a tie-break. He went on to win the second set 6-4.

Rinks and Hodgman will join two other area players, Scott Oudsema and Trevor McLeod , in the second round. 9th seeded Oudsema and McLeod both had first round byes.
