Oudsema, McLeod Advance; Berger, Hodgman, Rinks Fall To Seeded Players

Trevor McLeod of Kalamazoo and Scott Oudsema of Portage won tough matches Sunday afternoon at Stowe Stadium. McLeod beat Stuart Misner 6-4,7-6, 6-2. Oudsema, seeded ninth, beat Robert Cameron 6-4, 7-6 (5). Nick Rinks of Kalamazoo lost to fifth seed Wayne Odesnik, Ryan Berger was ousted by tenth seed Pramod Dabir and Eric Hodgman was defeated by Jamil Al-Agba, the thirteenth seed.

McLeod was loudly supported by an enthusiastic crowd, who during one point actually called him back to the court to finish a point when Misner retrieved a sure winner. After taking the second set tiebreak, McLeod received advice from his coach, Kalamazoo College Tennis Coach and Tournament Director Timon Corwin, who encouraged him to stay agressive during their discussion in ten minute break preceeding the third set. The Hackett High School star took the advice to heart and proceeded to win the final set going away.

Oudsema was up a break in the second set of his match, but found himself working hard to avoid a third set. Playing his first match at Stowe Stadium in front of the hometown fans, Oudsema was taken to a tiebreak by the gritty Cameron. Though close throughout, Oudsema took the tiebreaker 7-5, finishing the match with an ace.
