Taylor Dent to Face Mark Philippoussis in National City/RX Optical Exhibition

Timon Corwin, tournament director, announced that Taylor Dent and Mark Philippoussis will play in the National City/RX Optical Exhibition, Friday, August 5.

"I think the fans in Kalamazoo deserve an exhibition with quality players," said Corwin, "and you would have to go back to Agassi and Wilander in the 80s to come up with two more qualified exhibition players.?

Dent01 The annual exhibition will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Stowe Tennis Stadium on the campus of Kalamazoo College.

In ATP tour play this year he was a finalist in Adelaide, Australia and a semifinalist in Nottingham, England. He also did well in the ATP Masters Series events, reaching the quarterfinals in Marseille, France, Sydney, Australia and Miami, Florida.

Mark Philippoussis has 10 singles career titles and was a Grand slam finalist at the US Open in 1998 and Wimbledon in 2003. He also has a 13-9 career Davis Cup singles record in 12 ties and was a member of the winning Australian team in 1999 and 2003. This year he advanced to the semis in the ?s-Hertogenbosch tournament in the Netherlands.

The National City/RX Optical Exhibition is held in conjunction with the opening ceremonies of the United States Tennis Association Boys? 18 and 16 National Championships. The Championships have been played in Kalamazoo for the past 63 years. Championship play begins on Friday, August 5 and will culminate with the singles finals on Sunday, August 14. During the 10 days of tournament play spectators will watch the top junior boys from all over the US vying for the doubles and singles national championship titles.
