Rain Disrupts Quarterfinal Singles; 16 Doubles Quarterfinals Move Indoors

The rains arrived early at Stowe Stadium Thursday, and neither 16s quarterfinal singles match was finished, with both going into the third set. Persistent showers resulted in postponement of the two 18s quarterfinal matches.

Top seed Dennis Lajola was leading sixth seeded Dennis Nevolo 4-6, 6-4, 1-0; third seed Steve Forman also dropped the first set, but had edged ahead when play was called, leading 6-7 (5), 6-2, 3-2.

Alex Clayton and Donald Young were in the first game when rain halted play in their 18 singles quarterfinal match.

In 16s doubles quarterfinal action, the top seeded team of Lajola and Nate Schnugg saved two match points in the second set and squeaked by the sixth seeded team of Will Guzick and Mateusz Kecki 2-6, 7-6 (5), 6-3.

The fifth seeded team of Jarmere Jenkins and Andy Magee were not as fortunate. They lost to the 14th seeds Brennan Boyajian and Zach Hunter 6-3, 6-1 in the first match played indoors at the Markin Racquet Center.

The team of Steve Forman and Steve Johnson, seeded third, came back from a set down to advance to the semifinals. They beat the 13th seeded team of J. Houston Barrick and Tyler Davis. In the last quarterfinal doubles match in the 16s division, second seeds Johnny Hamui and Tyler Hochwalt went down a set, but recovered for a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory.

The consolation matches not completed at Stowe Thursday were played at West Hills.
