18 & 16 National Championships
KALAMAZOO, Michigan – The 2018 USTA Boys’ 18 and 16 National Championships handed out to singles titles on the final day of the 76th consecutive tournament held in Kalamazoo on Sunday.
In 18 singles, No. 4 Brooksby Jenson (Carmichael, California) defeated No. 3 Brandon Nakashima in straight sets 6-4, 6-3, 6-1. Brooksby, the 2016 finalist in 16 singles, earns the tournament’s wildcard berth into the U.S. Open last this year. No. 26 Stefan Dostanic (Irvine, California) won the third-place match via a walkover.
No. 50 Eric Hahn (Fullerton, California) defeated No. 34 Noah Schachter (Wesley Chapel, Florida) 6-2, 6-4 to win the feed-in title.
In 16 singles, No. 15 Martin Damm (Bradenton, Florida) claimed the national championship with a 6-2, 7-6(7) victory over Zane Khan (San Antonio, Texas), marking the only two sets Khan has lost all tournament. Opponents had only won four games or more twice in a set against Khan leading up the final.
No. 45 Alexander Kiefer (The Woodlands, Texas) won the third-place match via a walkover due to illness while No. 3 Alex Lee (Oak Brook, Illinois) survived a first-set loss in both the semifinals and finals to win the feed-in title over No. 10 Spencer Brachman (Commack, New York) 2-6, 7-6(5), 1-0(7).
The awards below were also given out:
2018 Dr. Allen B. Stowe Sportsmanship Award for Boys’ 18s – Eric Hahn of Fullerton, California.
2018 Bobby Kaplan Sportsmanship Award for Boys’ 16s – Eric Fishback of Geneva, New York.
2018 Wes Richards Award for Feed-In – Boris Kozlov of Pembroke Pines, Florida.
2018 Ron and Cathy Creager Umpire of the Year Award – David Hunter of Vincennes, Indiana.
