August 11 Roundup: champions crowned on last day of Nationals

Cheers of “go green, go white!” could be heard in the stands throughout the 18 & under singles championship match at Stowe Stadium. Matthew Forbes, who is headed to East Lansing in the fall, emerged victorious in four sets over Jack Kennedy (6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5).

Kennedy, at only 16 years old, managed to win a set off of Forbes and establish a 4-2 lead in the fourth set before Forbes came back to win it all.

Forbes earned a spot in the main draw in the U.S. Open at Flushing Meadows in September. Kennedy, who hails from Huntington, New York, earned a spot in the qualifying tournament for the U.S. Open not far from home.
