August 10 Roundup: Tournament concludes, the first rain delay of the Nats arrives
The Nationals concluded on Sunday with high heat and light rain after a week of nice weather.
Today’s matches featured the third-place match for 18s and 16s singles, and the finals for 18s and 16s singles.
Tenth seed Jerrid Gaines Jr. of Palmetto, Florida, defeated fourth seed Vihaan Reddy of San Jose, California, in straight sets (7-5, 7-6[4]) to take home the bronze ball.
Third seed Jack Kennedy of Huntington, New York, beat sixth seed Keaton Hance of Torrance, California, to win the third-place match in the 18s division. Last year’s 18s singles finalist beat his junior Roland Garros doubles partner 7-5, 6-2.
The 16s singles final took a dramatic turn in the third set. Fifth seed Marcel Latak of Darien, Illinois, was down 5-1 in the third set against the second seed, Andrew Johnson of Rancho Palos Verdes, California. Latak came back to win the match and the 2025 16s singles championship (2-6, 7-5, 7-5).
Top-seeded Darwin Blanch of Orlando, Florida, took on the eighth seed, Jack Satterfield, of Tampa, Florida, in the 18s singles final. A spot of rain led to a delay in the fourth set, but Blanch was able to come out on top (6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4).
