USTA Boys 16 & 18 Singles Quarterfinal and Doubles Semifinal Update

The no. 1 seed in the 18s, Phillip King of Long Beach CA, faced a tough opponent in his quarterfinal match Friday against unseeded Geoffrey Boyd of Tucker GA. King won the first set 7-6 with a 7-2 tiebreak score. King came back in the second set 6-3 to take the match in straight sets. King, the defending Boys 18 National champion, will face no. 4 seed Bo Hodge in the semifinals at 11:00 a.m. Saturday. The other semifinal features the no. 2 seed Robby Ginepri and the no. 5 seed Ytai Abougzir at noon.

In the 16s, Prakash Amritraj the no. 2 seed, defeated no. 5 seed Brian Baker 7-6, 6-4 to move into Saturday?s semis. Amritraj, of Encino CA, will play no. 4 Josh Cohen, Weston FL, who took out unseeded Bryan Wooten 6-1, 6-0. The Amritraj-Cohen match is scheduled for 12:30 p.m In the other 16 semifinal match, no. 1 seed Rajeev Ram will play no. 11 Mathew Cloer at 11 a.m.

The USTA championships in Boys 16s and Boys 18s doubles will be played following the conclusion of the singles semifinal matches, at approximately 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. respectively. The 16s finals feature Ram and Jonathan Stokke (1) versus James Pade and Aaron Spencer (7). In the 18s, Tres Davis and Ginepri (2) meet King and Ryan Newport (3).

The feedin quarterfinal matches begin Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m.
