Oudsema Advances to Round of 16 With 6-7 (10), 6-3, 1-0 Win

Ninth seed Scott Oudsema, of Portage MI, won his fourth round match on Tuesday when his opponent, Joseph Atas, of Baltimore MD, retired with an injury. Area temperatures rose into the 90's for the second day in a row, and Atas required medical attention after his 6-7(1), 6-4, 6-3 upset over 18th seed Ricardo Gonzalez of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico on Monday.

Atas won the 22 point first set tiebreaker, but began to show signs of distress during the second set. After the mandatory ten minute break between the second and third set and a lengthy game in the first game of the final set, Atas was unable to continue after playing five points of the second game.

In consolation action in Boys 16s, Nick Rinks of Kalamazoo lost in the third round, 5-7,7-6(4), 1-6. Ryan Berger of Grand Rapids lost in the third round, 4-6,4-6. Eric Hodgman of Kalamazoo won his third round qualifying match, 6-3,6-1.
