Update of Completed Rounds
KALAMAZOO, Michigan – The first two rounds of 18 singles and doubles as well as the first round of 16 singles have been completed after the first two days of the 2018 USTA Boys’ 18 and 16 National Championships.
In 18 singles, four of the top 32 seeds failed to advance to the third round. No. 20 Christian Alshon (Boca Raton, Fla.) fell to Chenhe Le (Syosset, N.Y.) 6-3, 6-3 while No. 23 Bradley Frye (Overland Park, Kan.) lost to Kenner Taylor (Houston, Texas) 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. No. 27 Alex Nefve (Boca Raton, Fla.) fell to Huntley Allen (Daniel Island, S.C.) 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5).
No. 7 Siem Woldeab (La Mesa, Calif.) withdrew from the tournament with an injury.
In 18 doubles, No. 9 Woldeab and his partner, Eshan Talluri (San Diego, Calif.) lost a three-set match to Russell Berdusco (Brandenton, Fla.) and Roger Chou (Austin, Texas) 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (9). Allen also pulled off another upset with partner Coy Simon (Charleston, S.C.) defeated No. 15 Neel Rajesh (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) and Samuel Rubell (Miami Beach, Fla.) 6-3, 7-5.
The top 32 seeds are all alive in the 16 singles main draw as the second round is being played today (Aug. 5). 16 doubles matches have not yet been played.
