Number Two Seed Falls in Boys 16s Shocker Sunday afternoon

After wasting four match points at the Clay Court Championships last month and losing to the third seed, Rook Schellenberg must have had deja vu Sunday afternoon in 16s singles action at Stowe Stadium.

Holding two match points at 3-5 in the third set of his second round contest with second seed Christopher Chirico, Schellenberg failed to capitalize on either opportunity. After an errant overhead and a ground stoke long, Schellenberg faced the memory of that third round match in Rockville MD, but he refused to fold.

"I thought about that overhead for a couple of points, but then I decided to forget about it and go for my shots," he said. With the crowd shouting encouragement, Schellenberg gathered himself, hit two return winners and converted on his third match point--a Chirico error.

This is the fifteen year old's first trip to Kalamazoo, and he certainly is off to a rousing start.
